Joshua 1:9 — 'Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.' This is God speaking directly to Joshua, the new leader of Israel, right before he crosses the Jordan.
Joshua has every reason to be afraid. He's following Moses. He's leading a nation of complainers into a land full of fortified cities. And God doesn't say 'don't worry, it'll be easy.' He says: be strong and courageous. Three times in this chapter alone.
But notice the structure. Every time God commands courage, he gives the same fuel: 'for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.' The courage isn't generated by Joshua's personality. It's generated by God's presence.
That's the pattern. God doesn't remove the danger. He promises his presence in it. Joshua still has to fight. He still has to lead. He still has to face his fear. But he does it with the one who made the oceans walking beside him.
