Do not be anxious about anything.
Paul's antidote to anxiety. Not denial — prayer, with thanksgiving, about everything.
The episode in a glance.
- 01'About anything' is comprehensive — no worry is too small or too big.
- 02Prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving are the three ingredients.
- 03Verse 7 is the result: peace that 'surpasses all understanding' guards you.
- 04Anxiety isn't a sin to scold; it's a load to hand over.

Philippians 4:6-7 — 'Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.'
'About anything' is sweeping. There is no anxiety too trivial to bring and none too overwhelming. Everything is invited into the prayer.
Paul gives three movements. Prayer is the general posture. Supplication is asking — being specific about what you need. And thanksgiving is the surprising ingredient — gratitude in the middle of the worry, for what God has already done.
Then the promise: peace that surpasses understanding. Not peace that makes sense given your circumstances. Peace that doesn't add up — and yet is real.
And the verb is 'guard.' Peace stands sentry over your heart and mind. Worry tries to break in. Peace turns it away.
