Romans 10:9 is Paul's clearest one-sentence summary of how a person becomes a Christian: 'If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.'
Two things. Out loud, and inside. 'Jesus is Lord' was not a polite religious phrase in the first century. Caesar was Lord. Saying anyone else was Lord could get you killed. Paul knew that.
And the inside thing is belief in the resurrection. Not just that Jesus was a good teacher. That God raised him. If that's not true, Paul says elsewhere, the whole faith collapses.
Put them together: a public allegiance and a real conviction. That's it. No religious resume required.
