Revelation has a reputation for being terrifying — dragons, bowls, judgment. But the book ends in a garden city, with this line: 'He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.'
Notice how personal it is. God doesn't issue a decree that tears stop. He bends down and wipes them away himself. The same God who flung galaxies into orbit kneels to comfort one person at a time.
Four things are ended: death, mourning, crying, pain. Together they cover every reason a human has ever wept. Loss, grief, sorrow, suffering — all of it, gone for good.
'The former things have passed away.' Not paused. Not improved. Passed away. The old order — the one we've lived in since Genesis 3 — is finally over.
