'As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.' Picture a deer in a drought — sides heaving, dying for water. That's what the psalmist says his soul looks like for God.

He doesn't apologize for the longing. He doesn't hide it. He names it.

Thirst is information. It tells you what your body needs. Spiritual thirst is the same. It tells you what your soul actually needs.

And only one stream will satisfy that thirst. Anything else just adds salt.
