Psalm 37:4 — 'Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.' This is one of the most misused verses in the Bible.

Most people read it as: want something, be religious, and God will give it to you. But that's backwards. The first half is the condition: 'Delight yourself in the LORD.' Find your joy in him. Make him your satisfaction.

And then the promise: 'He will give you the desires of your heart.' But here's the thing — when you delight yourself in the Lord, your desires change. You start wanting what he wants. You start wanting what he can give.

So the promise isn't 'God will give you everything you want.' It's 'God will give you everything you should want.' And the way to get there is delighting in him first.
