1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 — 'Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.'
'Rejoice always.' Joy is a discipline, not just a mood. You decide to rejoice in God even when circumstances don't match.
'Pray without ceasing.' Not constant words. Constant awareness. A running conversation with God under everything else you're doing.
'Give thanks in all circumstances.' Notice — in, not for. You don't have to thank God for the cancer. You can thank him in the cancer for who he is.
And Paul ends it: 'this is the will of God.' People wonder what God's will is. Here's the start. Joy. Prayer. Thanks. Begin there.
