Psalm 46:10 — 'Be still, and know that I am God.' We hear it on coffee mugs, but it's actually a verse about war and earthquakes.
The Hebrew phrase translated 'be still' is closer to 'cease striving' or 'let your hands drop.' It's the command God gives when you've been white-knuckling something for too long.
And the result of stillness is knowing. 'Know that I am God.' Not believe in God in general. Know him — personally, experientially — as the one in charge.
Look at the chapter around it. Mountains falling into the sea. Nations raging. Kingdoms tottering. And in the middle of all that, God says: stop. Let go. I'm God, and you're not. That's the rest.
