Nehemiah 8:10 — 'And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.' This is a strange moment. The people have just heard the Law read aloud, and they're weeping. They see how far they've fallen. And Nehemiah says: stop crying. Start celebrating.

It seems callous until you understand what he's offering. He's not saying their sin doesn't matter. He's saying the remedy for sin isn't grief — it's the joy of the Lord. God's joy in forgiving, restoring, and remaining with his people.

'The joy of the Lord.' Not your joy. Not happiness based on circumstances. The joy that belongs to God. His delight in his people. His pleasure in redemption. His celebration over one sinner who repents.

'Is your strength.' Strength here isn't just muscle. It's the energy to keep going. To rebuild. To obey. To face the next day. And that energy comes from joy, not from willpower.

If you're exhausted from trying harder, try rejoicing. Not because things are fixed. Because God is glad to be with you. And his joy is stronger than your failure.
