Psalm 46:1 — 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.' This psalm was written for a people who literally felt the earth moving. Earthquakes. Invasions. Collapse.

'Refuge' is a place you run to. It's not accidental. You choose it. God doesn't force you into the shelter. He is the shelter, and you have to step inside.

'Strength' is what you need when your own is gone. Not advice. Not encouragement. Strength. The ability to keep going when you have nothing left.

'Very present' is the best part. Not generally present. Not present in theory. Very present. Right here. Right now. In this room. In this fear. In this exact trouble.

And notice: help in trouble. Not help from trouble. God doesn't promise to remove every difficulty. He promises to be the help you need inside it. That's usually the deeper gift.
