- 01Three commands in three verses — short and pointed.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 — 'Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.' Three commands and a reason.
'Rejoice always.' Not when things are good. Always. Joy here isn't a feeling about your circumstances. It's a posture rooted in who God is.
'Pray without ceasing.' Paul isn't saying mumble prayers all day. He's saying live with the line open. Prayer as a posture, not just an event you schedule.
'Give thanks in all circumstances.' Notice he doesn't say for all circumstances. Some circumstances aren't to be thanked for. But in them, there's always something to thank God for — his presence, his promises, his past faithfulness.
And the reason: 'this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.' We often agonize over God's will for our lives. Paul says here it is — start with these three.
