Matthew 7:7 — 'Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.' Three commands, all about prayer, escalating in intensity.
Ask is the simplest. Articulate what you need. Out loud, on paper, in your head — but actually ask. Many of our needs go unanswered because they go unrequested.
Seek is more involved. You're moving, looking, searching. Some answers don't come without effort on our part to keep showing up.
Knock is even more persistent. You're at the door, and you're not going away. Jesus encourages that posture — not as nagging, but as trust that the door will eventually open.
And each verb has a promise attached. Given. Find. Opened. The next verses explain why: because you have a Father who delights in giving good gifts to his children. Prayer is more about his heart than your technique.
