1 John 4:4 is one of the most empowering verses in the Bible: 'Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.'
John writes this to believers who are surrounded by false teaching and spiritual pressure. 'You have overcome them.' Not 'you will overcome someday.' You have. It's already done.
The reason is the indwelling Spirit. 'He who is in you' — the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, living inside every believer. This isn't a force. It's a person. And he is God.
'He who is in the world' is the spirit of opposition — the antichrist spirit, the lie that denies Jesus. It's real, it's active, and it's hostile. But it's not greater.
The word 'greater' means stronger, more powerful, victorious. The Spirit inside you has already defeated the power you're facing. You overcome not by your strength, but by his.
