1 John 1:9: 'If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.'
'Confess' means to agree with God about what's true. Not grovel, not perform sorrow — agree. Call sin what God calls it.
'He is faithful and just to forgive us.' Faithful — he keeps his promise. Just — the cross paid the debt, so forgiving you doesn't violate justice.
Forgiveness isn't begged for, hoped for, or earned. It's promised. When you confess, it's already done.
And there's more: 'cleanse us from all unrighteousness.' Even the parts you didn't notice. The promise goes further than the confession.
