Micah 6:8: 'He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?'
Micah simplifies the religious life into three commands. They cover everything.
'Do justice.' Treat people rightly. Speak up for the oppressed. Don't take what isn't yours.
'Love kindness.' The Hebrew word is chesed — covenant loyalty, mercy, faithful love. Not just be nice. Be loyal to people.
'Walk humbly with your God.' Not ahead of him. Not behind. With him, in step, as a junior partner who recognizes who's leading.
