2 Timothy 1:7 — 'For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.'
Paul wrote this to Timothy, a young pastor leading a hard church. Timothy was timid by nature, and the pressure was crushing him. So Paul reminds him: the Spirit you received wasn't a fearful one.
Three gifts get named. Power — the strength to act when it would be easier to freeze. Love — the energy that keeps caring even when it costs. Self-control — a sound mind, clear thinking, not panicked.
Notice what's not there. Fear. Paul doesn't say the Spirit gives a little fear with the power. He says fear doesn't come from God at all.
That doesn't mean you'll never feel afraid. It means when you do, you can name it — this isn't from him — and reach for what he actually gave.
