Ephesians 2:8-9 is the famous verse: saved by grace, not by works. But the very next verse keeps going: 'For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.'
'Workmanship' is the Greek word poiema. It's where we get the word poem. You are God's poem — his crafted, deliberate work of art.
And the purpose of the workmanship is good works. Not to earn anything. To live out what you were made for.
Notice: 'which God prepared beforehand.' Your good works aren't random. They were planned. There are people you're meant to love, things you're meant to build, a life you're meant to walk.
Grace doesn't make you idle. It makes you free to do the work you were always made for.
