Jesus contrasted himself with a thief. The life he gives isn't longer life. It's fuller life.

In John 10, Jesus draws a sharp picture. 'The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.'
He's contrasting himself with everything else that promises life — money, status, religion, control — and quietly takes it away. The thief never looks like a thief at the door.
Then he describes what he brings: life. And not just life, but abundant life. The Greek word is perissos — more than enough, overflowing, beyond what you'd expect.
That doesn't mean a comfortable life. Jesus' own life wasn't comfortable. It means a life that's actually alive — full of meaning, anchored, connected to God, free from the slow drain of trying to manufacture your own worth.
If your life feels like it's leaking out, this is the verse to sit with. Jesus isn't offering more of what's already exhausting you. He's offering something different.
