John 8:32 gets quoted on library walls and university seals: 'The truth will set you free.' Beautiful sentence — usually ripped from its setting.

Jesus is talking to people who had just started believing in him. He says, 'If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'

Notice the chain. Stay in his teaching. That makes you a disciple. Then you know the truth. Then truth frees you. There's no shortcut.

And his listeners pushed back: 'We've never been slaves to anyone.' Jesus answered, 'Everyone who sins is a slave to sin.' So the freedom he's offering isn't political. It's freedom from the things inside you that own you.

Truth, in Jesus' mouth, isn't a list of facts. It's reality as God sees it — including the truth about you. And when you stop hiding from that, something inside you finally exhales.
