A lamp to my feet — the kind of oil lamp the psalmist had in mind lit up the ground right in front of you. Maybe two or three steps. Enough to keep you from tripping.

A light to my path — a little farther out. Enough to see the next bend.

But notice what's missing. There's no floodlight illuminating the whole journey from start to finish. That's not how God's Word usually works.

Scripture trains you to walk by trust. Take this next step. Then the next one. The lamp will light the ground when you get there, not before. And that's enough.
