Our God is able — but even if he doesn't, we won't bow.

King Nebuchadnezzar built a giant golden statue and ordered everyone to bow. Three Hebrew exiles — Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego — refused. He threatened to throw them into a furnace.
Their answer is one of the bravest sentences in the Bible: 'If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods.'
Two halves. The first: 'Our God is able.' They had complete confidence in his power.
The second: 'But if not.' Even if he chooses not to rescue us, we still won't bow. Our loyalty isn't conditional on the outcome.
That's faith without strings. Most of us have faith that says, 'I'll trust you if you do what I want.' These three said, 'I'll trust you even if you don't.' That's the kind God meets in the fire.
