The people of Israel were piling up religious sacrifices, hoping it would buy them favor. Through Micah, God answers: 'He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?'
Three verbs. No loopholes. This is what God actually wants.
'Do justice.' Not just believe in justice — do it. Make things fair, especially for the people who have no power to make things fair for themselves.
'Love mercy.' Notice the verb. Not 'give mercy when forced.' Love it. Be the kind of person who delights in extending it.
'Walk humbly with your God.' The whole life is described as a walk — daily, ongoing, relational. With God, not just toward him. And humbly — because you're not the bigger party in this relationship.
