An ancient lamp wasn't a floodlight. It cast a small circle — enough to see where to put your next step on a dark road. That's the image here.
God's word usually doesn't show you the next five years. It shows you the next step. Most people want a map. He gives a lamp.
But 'a light to my path' adds something. Over time, as you walk in obedience, you start to see the direction your life is going. The path becomes recognizable, even if you can't see the destination.
If you're frustrated that God isn't giving you the whole plan, that's not a failure of his guidance. That's the design. Read the Bible. Take the step in front of you. Then trust him with the next one.
