It's the night before Jesus dies. He's just told his disciples he's leaving. Thomas — bless him — asks the question everyone's thinking: 'Lord, we don't know where you're going. How can we know the way?'
Jesus' answer doesn't dodge. 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'
Three claims, with definite articles. The way. The truth. The life. Not a way among options. Not a teacher of truth. Not a path to life. Himself.
That's an enormous claim, and Jesus knew it. He wasn't offering himself as one option on a spiritual buffet. He was saying he is the connection point between humanity and God.
If that's true, it changes everything. You don't need to climb. You don't need to perform. The way to the Father is a person, and he's offering you his hand.
