'We love because he first loved us.' Eight words. One of the most quietly important sentences in the New Testament.
Notice the order. Not 'we love and then God loves us back.' Not 'God loves us as we love others.' He first loved us. The starting point is always him.
That changes everything about how love works. You don't manufacture it from your own reserves. You receive it from God, and it overflows from there.
Which is why people who try to love without first letting themselves be loved by God eventually run dry. You can't give what you don't have.
If your love feels thin lately, the question isn't 'how do I try harder?' It's 'have I sat in his love long enough to have something to give?'
