Jesus has just spent an entire section telling people not to worry. About food. About clothes. About tomorrow. Then he gives the alternative: 'Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.'
He doesn't say 'don't seek anything.' He says seek first. Get the order right. Most anxiety comes from a scrambled priority list.
'The kingdom' isn't a place — it's God's rule. His way of doing things. His character. Putting that first means asking, in every decision, 'What does God want here?' before 'What do I want here?'
And the promise that follows isn't a guarantee of luxury. The 'all these things' refers back to the basics Jesus just listed: food, clothes, what you need. God can be trusted to provide what's actually necessary when you trust him with the priorities.
It's a simpler way to live than the alternative. Try the order he prescribed for one week and watch what happens to the worry.
