Zephaniah is a short, intense book of judgment — until the very last chapter, when this verse appears like sunrise: 'The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.'
Read that slowly. The God of the universe sings over you. Not just tolerates you. Not just forgives you. Sings.
And 'quiet you by his love.' Not 'scold you into shape.' Quiet you. The way a parent gentles a child who can't stop crying.
