Lamentations is exactly what it sounds like — five chapters of grief over the destruction of Jerusalem. Most of it is heavy.
Then in the middle of chapter 3, the writer says something startling: 'The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.'
He hasn't stopped grieving. The city is still in ruins. But he chooses to remember something true.
Mercies new every morning means you don't have to drag yesterday's failure into today. The supply gets restocked while you sleep.
Whatever you woke up to, the mercy did too. That's the verse worth saying out loud first thing tomorrow.
