Psalm 27 opens like a thrown punch. 'The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?'
Two declarations, two questions. Light beats darkness. Salvation beats danger. So whom, exactly, would I be scared of?
Notice the form. He doesn't say 'I am not afraid.' He asks. Because fear is loud and needs an answer, not a denial.
When fear shows up, the prayer isn't 'stop feeling this.' It's 'remind me who you are.' Naming God out loud is how the room gets smaller and he gets bigger.
