Nehemiah and Ezra have read the Law aloud to the returned exiles. The people start weeping — they hadn't heard it in years and realized how far they'd drifted.
Nehemiah stops them. 'This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep... Go and eat the fat and drink sweet wine... for the joy of the Lord is your strength.'
Two ways to read 'joy of the Lord.' Your joy in him — that fuels strength. But also his joy in you — that he is glad about his people being there at all.
Either way, the strength doesn't come from grit. It comes from being delighted in. That's the muscle that holds you up when you didn't sleep, the bills are late, and you have to show up anyway.
