Adam and Eve eat the fruit. The very next thing they do is hide. They sew leaves together, they duck into the trees, they try to disappear.
And God walks into the garden and says, 'Where are you?' He is not lost. He knows exactly where they are. The question is for them, so they will hear themselves answer.
Notice the direction of the story. They are running from God. God is walking toward them. That is the shape of grace from page three onward.
Whatever you are hiding from today, the question hasn't changed. Where are you? Come out of the trees. He is already coming to find you.
