Moses is at the end. Joshua is at the beginning. And Moses says to him, 'Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.'

Notice the source of courage. It isn't 'you're capable.' It's 'he's with you.'

The promise uses two verbs of leaving — not leave, not forsake — as if one wasn't strong enough.

Centuries later, the writer of Hebrews quotes this same line and applies it to ordinary Christians. The promise made to Joshua is now made to you.
