Joshua has just inherited Moses's job. The first chapter has God telling him to be strong and courageous — three separate times. Plus the people say it back to him at the end.

Four reminders in one chapter. Apparently courage needs to be said more than once.

Notice the reason: 'for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.' Not 'because you've got this.' Not 'because you're qualified.' Because he goes with you.

God never commands something he doesn't supply. If he's asking you to be brave, he's also giving you what bravery requires — his presence.
