Gideon is hiding in a winepress, threshing wheat, terrified the Midianites will find him. And an angel shows up and says, 'The LORD is with you, O mighty man of valor.'
It's almost funny. Mighty man of valor? Look where he is. But God names him by what he will be, not what he is.
God does this all over the Bible. He calls Abram 'father of many' when he has no kids. He calls Peter 'rock' when he's a reed.
