Before the first 'thou shalt not,' God says, 'I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.'
That sentence is the foundation of all ten commandments. He's not a stranger giving rules to strangers. He's a rescuer giving instructions to the rescued.
Obedience always grows out of memory. When we forget what God has done, his commands feel like a burden. When we remember, they feel like the natural response to being loved.
Whatever God is asking of you today, start by remembering what he's already done.
