1 Thessalonians 5:16 — 'Rejoice always.' Three words. One command. Sounds impossible.
But 'always' doesn't mean 'only when things are good.' It means in all circumstances. Paul wrote this from prison. He knew what he was asking.
Joy isn't happiness. Happiness depends on happenings. Joy is a settled confidence that God is good, even when your circumstances aren't. It's deeper than emotion. It's a conviction.
And it's a command. Which means it's possible. God doesn't command impossibilities. He gives what he commands. If he says rejoice always, he's also giving you the capacity to do it. The question is whether you'll choose it.
