James 4:7 — 'Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.' Two commands. One order. And the order matters.

Submit first. Not resist first. You don't have the power to resist the devil on your own. But when you're submitted to God — aligned with his will, under his authority — then resistance becomes possible.

'Resist the devil' — stand against him. Say no. Don't cooperate. Don't negotiate. Don't give ground. But do it from a position of submission to God, not self-confidence.

And the promise? 'He will flee from you.' The devil doesn't stick around where God is actively defended. He runs. But only when the resistance comes from someone who's already submitted.
