John 16:33 — 'I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.'
'In the world you will have tribulation.' Jesus doesn't soft-pedal it. Trouble is part of the deal. Don't be surprised when it comes.
'Take heart.' Be brave. Take courage. The command isn't 'feel better.' It's 'be brave anyway.'
'I have overcome the world.' Past tense. Already done. Jesus is speaking the night before the cross, but he's already calling the victory.
And the result: 'in me you may have peace.' Peace doesn't come from circumstances changing. It comes from being in Christ — the one who's already won.
