Joshua 1:9 — 'Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.'

God is talking to Joshua, who just inherited Moses' job. He has to lead a nation into a land full of enemies. Of course he's afraid.

And God says: be strong and courageous. He says it multiple times in this chapter. Because the call doesn't get easier — but the command stands.

'Do not be frightened, do not be dismayed.' Fear is the temptation. Dismay is the giving in. God says: resist both.

And the reason isn't 'because you're tough.' The reason is presence. 'I am with you wherever you go.' Your courage isn't in your ability. It's in his company.
