2 Corinthians 5:17 — 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.'
'In Christ' is a location. Paul's favorite phrase for what it means to be a Christian. You are inside the safe, defining reality of Jesus.
And in that location, you are a new creation. Not a touched-up old self. Not a better version. New. The same word used for what God did in Genesis 1.
The old has passed away — past tense. The old identity, old verdict, old you doesn't define you anymore.
The new has come — present and continuous. Growing into it is the work of a lifetime, but the new identity is already true. Live like it today.
