Ephesians 2:8-9 — 'For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.' These two verses are the demolition crew for self-salvation.

'By grace.' Grace means unearned favor. God saves you because he chooses to, not because you earned it. The source of salvation is entirely outside you. It's his disposition toward you, not your performance for him.

'Through faith.' Faith is the hand that receives the gift. Not the price that buys it. Not the work that earns it. Trust. You believe that what God offers is real, and you receive it.

'Not your own doing.' This is explicit. You didn't save yourself. You didn't contribute the decisive factor. Even the faith is a gift. The whole thing is from God.

'Not a result of works, so that no one may boast.' If you could earn it, you'd brag about it. But you can't. So nobody can. Salvation is God's masterpiece, not your DIY project.
