John 15:13 is one of the most quoted verses about love: 'Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.'

Jesus is defining love in absolute terms. Not 'really strong affection.' Not 'deep emotional connection.' The greatest love is the willingness to die for someone else.

And he says it in the upper room, hours before he will actually do it. This isn't theory. It's a preview of the cross. He's telling his disciples: I'm about to show you what I mean.

But notice who the love is for: 'his friends.' Not just family. Not just the deserving. Friends. The people he chose, walked with, and was about to die for.

This sets the pattern for all Christian love. Love isn't measured by how you feel. It's measured by what you're willing to give. And the highest gift is your life.
