2 Timothy 1:7 is a powerful reminder: 'God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.'
Paul writes this to Timothy, who seems to be struggling with timidity. Timothy is young, facing opposition, and maybe shrinking back. Paul says: that's not from God.
Fear is real, but it's not your identity. The spirit you received isn't a fearful spirit. It's a spirit of power — the ability to act and speak boldly. Of love — the right motive for everything you do. And of self-control — the steadiness to stay calm under pressure.
These three go together. Power without love is dangerous. Love without power is ineffective. And neither works without self-control. God gave you all three.
And it's a gift, not an achievement. 'God gave us.' You already have this spirit. The question isn't whether you can generate it. It's whether you'll walk in what you were given.
