Hebrews 12:1-2 is one of the most motivating passages in the Bible: 'Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.'

The 'cloud of witnesses' is the heroes of Hebrews 11 — ordinary people who trusted God against all odds. They're not watching to judge you. They're watching to cheer you on. You're running the same race they ran.

'Lay aside every weight.' Weights aren't necessarily sins. They're things that slow you down — distractions, obligations, attitudes, habits. And sin 'clings so closely' — it's sticky, persistent, hard to shake.

'Run with endurance.' The Greek word is hupomone — staying power, the ability to keep going when you want to quit. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

And the key: 'looking to Jesus.' Not looking at your own performance. Not looking at the competition. Looking at Jesus — the one who started your faith and will finish it. Keep your eyes on him, and you won't quit.
