Love is patient and kind.

1 Corinthians 13:4: 'Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant.'

We read this at weddings. Paul wrote it to a church that was suing each other, getting drunk at communion, and showing off spiritual gifts.

Every word is an action verb. Love isn't a feeling that visits you. It's a way of treating people, especially when you don't feel like it.

Patient with people who try you. Kind to people who don't deserve it. Not envious of what others have. Not boasting about what you have.

Here's the test: substitute your name everywhere it says 'love.' Read it again. That's the gap, and that's where grace meets us.
