Revelation 3:20: 'Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.'
We often quote this to non-Christians. But Jesus originally said it to a church — the lukewarm church in Laodicea.
He's standing outside their door. Knocking. The church called by his name had locked him out, and he was waiting patiently for someone to open up.
Hearing his voice is the first step. In a noisy world, hearing requires stillness. Opening is the second step. It's a choice.
The promise is intimate: 'I will come in to him and eat with him.' Shared meals in that culture meant deep friendship. Jesus wants dinner, not a brief visit.
