Psalm 1:1: 'Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers.'
The Psalms open with a choice. Two paths. One blessed, one not. Everything that follows assumes you've heard this.
'Blessed' isn't shallow happiness. It's deep flourishing — the life that goes well because it's aligned with God.
Walks, stands, sits — notice the progression. Walking past becomes standing with becomes sitting among. Sin entangles by degrees.
The negative sets up the positive in verse 2: the blessed person delights in God's law and meditates on it day and night. Avoiding the wrong path isn't enough — you have to choose the right one.
