Genesis 15:6: 'And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.'
One short sentence that changes everything. Abraham didn't earn righteousness — he was credited with it because he believed.
'Counted' is an accounting term. God moved righteousness from his column to Abraham's based on faith.
Paul will quote this in Romans 4 and Galatians 3 to prove that justification by faith isn't a New Testament invention. It was always God's way.
Abraham hadn't been circumcised, hadn't built an altar of obedience, hadn't done anything to deserve it. He simply trusted God. That's still how it works.
