1 Kings 19:11-12: 'And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains... but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.'
Elijah has just had his biggest victory and biggest crash. He's in a cave, exhausted, asking to die.
God puts on a show — wind, earthquake, fire. But Elijah is told: God isn't in any of those.
Then comes 'a low whisper.' Some translations say 'a still, small voice.' That's where God was.
If you're waiting for God to speak through dramatic signs, you may miss him entirely. He often speaks quietly to the heart that's listening.
