2 Samuel 7:22: 'Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.'

God has just promised David an eternal dynasty — a promise that ultimately points to Jesus.

David's response isn't to ask for more. It's to worship. 'There is none like you.'

'No God besides you.' David lived in a polytheistic culture, but he knew the truth: only one God is real, and that God just made a covenant with him.

'According to all that we have heard with our ears.' God's reputation in Israel matches his reality. The stories told are true. The God of the stories is the God of the room.
